Awesome Tip: TRACK 2: MY CURRENT MINDSET

Sometimes things are just meant to be. No wifi on this flight from Stockholm to New York put me in a mindset. Not having a whole lot of work left to do put me in a mindset. This time, this moment, put me in a mindset and the mindset is real simple.

I was able to read so many of your emails and your DM’s right now. So many. So many people coming from so many different backgrounds. So many different ages, heritages, religions, experiences and I’m sitting here just saying to myself, “My God, everybody’s got something.” Everybody’s sitting right now as they’re reading this article and they’ve got something that they’re dwelling about.
Something that’s pulling them down, something that’s holding them back. Something that happened a long time ago, or something that’s going on in their life.

It just feels so intense for me right this second. It feels really, really hard core for me. Just consuming all this content. All these questions and I’m in this position where people want to ask me and I feel so gifted about it. I don’t know if I’m up to the task or not every time, but I know my intent is and I know I’ve desperately wanted to just make this video and let everybody know that everybody’s got something.
So many if you look around. Look at all those people and you think they’ve got it better and default into thinking somebody’s got a little more privilege, a little better. Somewhere along the line I heard somebody say, “All of us are born with a gift and a curse.” Right. Either we have too much or we have too little and I get that and I get that and I think about it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish and I see things that people don’t see. Like people that are gifted with privilege and it cripples them and it fucks them from the get and they’ve lost before they’ve started and obviously people that are born with so little and such different difficult circumstances.
Everybody’s got something and it’s always going to be like that and I just want people to know that. If we could just all deploy a little more empathy and realize that it just makes it a little easier for you to deal with yours. It’s not misery loves company, it’s actually completely the reverse. It’s wishing and wanting for everybody to win and realizing none of that comes at your expense. It’s wishing and wanting that people can navigate through the maze of the circumstances they were dealt. The hand they were given. It’s wishing that they are surrounded by the people that can help them, or they can consume something, whether it’s a song, or a poem or a book or a movie, or a video like this that switches their mindset. That inspires them, galvanizes them, makes them realize they have no choice but to do it for themselves. Nobody’s going to do it for you. Nobody’s going to do it for you. There’s people out there rooting for you, there’s people out there cheering for you. Your mom is cheering for you sometimes.

  1. Thank you for the content, needed this today. I love the potential of this series for a few reasons. It's short enough that if someone is looking to consume your content and really digest it, they can listen or watch on repeat (daily, weekly, whatever) and it helps get those nuggets of wisdom into their minds and then also into their reality. Second, because it's just you talking, it can act like a podcast for those people who don't have the time to watch, but have the time to listen. Also, (haven't watched last this track) but it seems more personal and heartfelt which is a great way to communicate the really important stuff. Seems to sink deeper that way (for me anyways). I like it.

  2. I like #2, #3, and #11 the best. It is strange to see Gary show emotion through tears. I think that this project is summed up very well by Rush's "Subdivisions." Rush is my favorite band and I hope that Gary would be proud of them with all of the work that they've put in over the years to showcase their talent, create content, and interact genuinely with their fans.

  3. I didn't know what to expect of this series but what I am taking away in watching this video, is this is absolute performance art. The pathos and catharsis in hearing you say "everybody's got something, everybody's got something…" is crushing in the best way. I felt like I was watching a spoken word performance. Authentic, unsettling and spot on. This is amazing and I can't wait to watch the rest. Thank you for sharing your truth. Thank you, Gary.

  4. Hi Gary, I just started watching your videos and they are inspiring.
Serious question for you…if the internet and YouTube didn’t exist, do you think you would still be as “successful” as you appear to be, and if so what would be your chosen media channel? Don’t spin the question, just answer directly. Thanks, Sara

  5. I understand the message you’re trying to get across but some people are born into different struggles. I can’t tell if you’re trying to say that everybody has got something so don’t complain or what? Some people are literally born into no struggle and the most they struggle with is deciding what coffee to get before they get to the front of the line at starbucks. Lol

  6. LOVE the audio quality! I think this is fucking great. All of it. To me, this is better watching it unfold out of his mind with less of a filter compared to hearing his same pitch in every video. Truly truly truly appreciate this style.

  7. always pushing the boundaries, expanding our thinking and actions, simply by being a leading example. Appreciate your raw, authenticness and that you're willing to just try it…you inspire me and helps me be patient and stay confident if you take the action, put in the effort I'll achieve the vision I believe in 🙂
